Handmade Soaps - FAQs

Handmade Soaps - FAQs
>>ORIGINAL ABSTRACT ...

:: Why use handmade soaps?
Glycerin is produced during "saponification" – the soapmaking process. Glycerin is a humectant – it attracts moisture – and is removed during most commercial soap-making processes, reserved for use in more expensive products such as lotions or cosmetics. The soaps here are made from food-grade oils and retains glycerin, resulting in a gentle soap which retains many additional constituents which are nourishing. Unfortunately, we in the US have been conditioned to regard high-lather capability with "good" soap but lathering often results in a harsh soap and lab-created chemicals such as lauryl sulfate are added to many commercially-produced products )which the FDA does not allow to be labelled as soap) to provide such "super-lather." The soap formulations here attempt to strike a balance between creating a nice, satisfying discernable lather – due to coconut and castor oils - and providing a gentle soap. The soaps are naturally-preserved only with vitamin A

:: Why are different oils used to make the soap?
Certain oils produce soap characteristics which are desirable or to which we are accustomed. Palm oil and any component with stearic acid such as beeswax provides hardness. Coconut oil and castor oil increase lathering ability and quality. Other oils, such as olive, castor and soy, contain more components which are not converted in the soap making process or which are converted to confer other desirable soap properties.

:: Are the soaps animal tested?
NO. Cruelty-free products - no animal testing. All soaps are VEGAN unless the ingredient list includes beeswax and/or silk and biodegradable.

:: due to hygenienic reasons, soaps may not be returned
