Candace Byington is an artist from the Great Black Swamp region in Ohio. Her art is heavily influenced by Mexican folk art, in particular, the skull masks and colors of the Day of the Dead Festivals, the self-portraits of Frida Kahlo, flower paintings of Georgia O'Keefe, works of Edvard Munch, and the woodblock cuts of the German Expressionist to name a few. Her work explores the seven deadly sins, escapism, the romanticism and solitude of the desert southwest, the glory and gore of ancient Mexico, the whimsical and macabe atmosphere of the day of the dead festival, the smokey scenes in the goth industrial club, and the serenity of the sunset. Recentlty she has become obsessed with waterlillies and desert flowers.
Candace has a BFA in Fine Art from Bowling Green State University and works by day as a graphic artist and aspires to be an illustrator for books and magazines. She is also a member of Spectrum Friends of Fine Art. Her work is mostly 2-d, watercolor, gouache, acrylic, and oil paintings and drawings, and paper masks. She enjoys traveling.
