Although I've dabbled in various artforms, including photography, since childhood, my pursuit of photography became more serious after retirement to West Virginia in 1994.
With GPS, digital camera, & tripod in hand, I began documenting the natural beauty of the area, exploring off trail, always seeking the secret waterfall or forgotten trail to a fantastic viewpoint. Having accumulated an extensive portfolio of beautiful photos of the area, I decided to share these with the public, and began selling my work at the Art Company in Davis, West Virginia in late 2004.
I process my own photos from camera to matted prints, using acid free materials. I'm in the process of switching from printing with Canon ink and Canon Photo Paper Pro on the Canon i9900 ink jet printer to Epson 3800 with UltraChrome K3 pigment inks and Epson paper. The prints are expected to be "archival" for 38+ years for Canon and 80+ years with Epson (data from Wilhelm Research Inc)
I use the latest Adobe Photoshop technology and digital darkroom techniques, sometimes blending two or more exposures to keep the details of both highlights and shadows, thus going beyond the limitations of what the camera can record with one exposure, always with the goal of showing the true color, light, and detail of what the eye saw at that moment in time.
My photos are currently exhibited at:
