Artist Statement
Helena Tiainen
At their deepest level my paintings and drawings are about oneness and wholeness. They are about the seeming separateness of physical forms and the delicate dance of unity that underlies these seemingly separate structures. I could say that my art is about the interconnectedness of all life. It is about potential possibilities.
I believe that as human beings our experience of life is always partial and that we never see the full picture. We are literally the blind men and women touching the elephant. I explore this fact in my drawings and paintings. I choose to paint and draw mainly surreal, organic, geometric, fractal and figurative abstractions. I am into the micro and macro of things and ideas. The forms in my paintings and drawings are intended to get associated in the viewer's understanding to make sense based on the viewer's own and humanity's collective mind knowledge and associations. In short, besides my personal motives to create, it is my intention to mirror back to the viewer the contents of their mind and understanding as reflected through my paintings and drawings. After all, nothing in this world ever is quite as it seems to be and in general we all can only perceive that which we can allow as perhaps possible.
