Biography
Jeffrey Q BaxterJeffrey Q. Baxter, a native of Rockford, Illinois, a graphic artist and an active painter since 1988, creating works of art in a realistic representational style. Producing works inspired by the variety and vibrancy of tropical fish. His interest in fish is not only from an artistic standpoint, because at the same time he has studied, maintained and breed 27 different species of African Chiclids. Writing 5 nationally published articles on the care and maintenance of these beautiful tropical fish.
Currently, he is captive propagating, growing and raising corals in two marine reef tanks.
In 1993 this interest led to greater expressiveness through the three dimensional art form of sculpture. Developing a realistic style he captures their form, vivid colors and flow of movement. Using a variety of techniques and permanent media (fired clay “ceramic” and synthetic stone) he has produced sculptures from actual life size to large scale outdoor works.
His art has been featured at Juried Art Exhibitions throughout the United States of America. An award winning artist, to date he has received 8 national and 4 international awards.
Jeffrey has also been selected to be included in the 2000/2001 edition of the International Encyclopedic Dictionary of Modern and Contemporary Art, 2004 edition ArtRockford: a collection of art from the Rock River Valley and the 2001 thru 2005 editions of the biographical directory Who’s Who in the World.
He is a Corresponding Academician of the International Academy of Art and Sciences, National Academy of Art and Sciences, Vercelli, Italy. A Charter Member of the Potters Council of The American Ceramic Society, Columbus, OH. and a member of the Rockford Area Arts Council, Rockford, IL.

Commissioned art work is available at no extra charge.
Just about any kind of fish can be made into a work of art.
Salt water (marine), fresh water (tropical) and game fish.

“Inspired by the vibrance in color and form of the coral reef, I try to capture these elements in the sculptures that create. Which can range from a single fish to a diorama, complete with many fish and representations of their natural surroundings.”
