As an Australian, Kay Lipton loves to show her impressions of this fantastic and diverse country of sun, sky, sea and changing landscape, with all the skills that she can muster.
No matter how she conveys the moment of inspiration, her works are captivating.
Be it a charcoal drawing of a young woman drying herself on the beach, or a vista of the red centre of this ancient land in oils, a whimsical notion of the human condition
in one of her silk-works, or more recently portaying the great classical music composers inspiration in art form.
The following was written about her in the Art Catalogue of her major exhibition in Toulouse, France in 1995,
“THE SKY, SEA, THE EARTH, AND ME IN AUSTRALIA”
KAY LIPTON – AN EXTRAORDINARY LIFE
Kay Lipton has captured the very essence of AUSTRALIA in her diverse
works portraying her unique experiences derived from this country.
She trained at the Central School of Art and St.Martin’s School of Art
in London. She has exhibited widely around the world, travelling extensively
in Europe, U.S.A , Canada, and East Africa.
During her eight years in Uganda, one of her first appointments as a resident artist
was with the British High Commission. She painted murals for the Entebbe Airport and won the Caltex Art Prize.
When in Africa, she discovered the art of wax-resist batik on cotton, being
created there by the African women, using vegetable dyes.
She took up this art-form and took it to a new dimension, using fast dyes
on pure silk.
Now living in Australia, she loves to show her impressions of this
fantastic and diverse country of sun, sea and changing landscape, with all the skills
that she can muster.
No matter how she conveys `that moment of inspiration’, be it a charcoal drawing
of a young woman drying herself on the beach, or a vista of the “red centre”
of this ancient land in oils, or a whimsical notion of the human condition in one of
her silk-work, she finds clients who just `have to have that certain piece’.
So, for those aspiring artists, who `have a dream’, take heart. If you stretch that little bit more and keep that goal in mind, you can really achieve it!
Her studio is in Brisbane, Queensland and she has many new art projects in the pipe-line.
