I did not do anything with these yarns for almost 3 years. The yarns were all 3-ply wool. First, I organized all colors by a palette of shades.
I looked at the colors & thought
‘Perfect! I need to make a Fall Décor!’
I decided the best use was to make a design on the 6.25” hexagon into a swirling design – just as Fall Leaves do in the wind - Swirl around!
I wanted a Sun, so cut a ring from a 3” round for the bottom section, which is 2.75" W x 4" H to look like a setting Fall Sun in a forest.
The funny thing is, the only blue in all those yarns was the color of blue my Mother liked when she did pastels for her skies! In honor of that, I used that blue for the sky (rather than another blue) & added the setting Sun colors below it.
I carefully cut a shape to make a tree & thought, ‘an Aspen tree, just like when I lived in Western Colorado!’ Do you think I could find an Aspen Leaf charm? No, I never did, so used a metal leaf I found!
Item is double sided & I stitched my initials ‘MWC’ & ‘2K’ (2000 CE) on the top panel's reverse. The lower panel is backed with felt. I put Fall Leaves (silk) on its back to add interest, as the leaves peek from behind when viewed.
It was fun to make & reminded me of the many Crewel Embroidered scenes my Mother made for family members & me. I wished I had the foresight years ago to put one she made for me a frame (it was a pillow) – before it began designating from years of use. Mother did excellent Crewel work! This item is now for Sale & I am certain as popular as it has been, someone will like having it in their home or office.
