Born in Chattanooga TN and presently living in Clarksville, I have also called Boston; Lexington KY; Vienna, Austria; and Huntsville AL home for brief periods. Besides making art, I teach special education at 3rd, 4th and 5th grade levels at Fort Campbell KY.
I have felt immersed in art for as long as I can remember. I consider my work fanciful, whimsical, and fun. Spontaneity and intuition are essential elements. Enjoyment in the doing as well as in the finished product is very important to me. I like to “play” with color and line evolving intuitively into shape with meaning; intentionality is held in reserve as a vague and semiconscious presence in the process. Following a natural flow leads to recognition as cognitive interplay emerges to shape the final outcome.
Love of nature informs my work. I like working with organic forms: the circular and arched patterns of forests and flowers, the figurative whimsy of animals, variety in human expression. I also love geometrical form, so architecture finds its way into many pictures as line explores the interplay of rectangular, triangular, mathematical relationships which evolve into buildings, special spaces. I like to finish with scenes I’d personally love to enter into, figures who beckon to me, shapes suggestive of secrets and promise.
