Michelle is an emerging artist who has developed her own unique style of abstract art and an 18k gold leafing technique which gives her paintings an iridescent way of reflecting natural and artificial light. Her paintings are imbued with spirituality, symbolism and other worldliness.
In a more esoteric setting of custom created work, Michelle consults with the individual to represent their soul’s path or healing through her art. Rather than a portrait of their physical manifestation, the artwork can be seen as a portrait of their soul. These type of paintings become highly personal treasures for the individual as they sometimes reveal themselves over time. For the ordinary eye, however they might simply look like beautiful colors on a canvas. Michelle has enhanced sacred spaces at conferences, yoga centers, meditation rooms and at seminars honoring the healing arts.
Michelle welcomes the opportunity to create custom designed artwork for interior designers, corporate and residential spaces. She is available for consultation to consider colors, theme, size of the artwork and budget.
In 2006 Michelle was invited by the Deepak Chopra Center to attend the seminar “Synchro Destiny”. It was here that she met renowned artist Paul Heussenstamm who invited her to attend his workshop “Art as a Spiritual Path”. After seeing her first two paintings Paul pronounced her “Sarasvati – Goddess of all the Arts”. Michelle has since studied Mandala Painting with Paul and Buddhist Painting with Tibetan Master Yeshi Dorjee. She also holds a BFA, Magna Cum Laude from Tisch School of the Arts, New York University and is a recipient of the NYU Founders Day Award. She has worked as a consultant with artists and licensees of the Walt Disney Consumer Products Division.
Michelle Matisse grew up in Europe and has traveled internationally. Her current primary residence is in Carlsbad, California where she lives with her husband and their two young children. When she is not busy painting, she volunteers her time to teaching the “Meet the Masters” Art Education for Children program. |
