Professional autobiography
I, Shelikhov Valeriy Victorovich, was born in Moscow in 1954.
In 1969 I entered Moscow Art Craftsmanship and Design School # 64, Moscow. I graduated from the School in 1971 with a degree Craftsman in Restoration of Art Period Furniture.
In 1974 I taught cabinetry and marquetry in Moscow Art Craftsmanship and Design School # 64 for a period of 1 year.
September of 1974 - became a student of the evening department of the College - Technology of furniture manufacturing, Moscow.
In 1975 I was hired to work with the Restoration Department for the Consumer Service Industry for the city of Moscow.
In 1978 I started working with the artist Nikolay I. Andronov and transferred to work for the very prestigious office of Department for Monumental Decorative Art, Moscow during the Soviet Union.
Through the contract with the Department for the Monumental Decorative Art, I completed a big assignment at the Soviet Embassy in Washington D.C., USA. The work is still on display in the Embassy Complex (today - Embassy of Russia, Washington, D.C.). Marquetry “Old Moscow, New Moscow” out of 40 tree species occupies the area of 70 square meters. I received a nationally significant Award and Prize from the Moscow City Council for this piece of work at the exhibition “Moscow and Muscovites”.
In 1981 I completed stained-glass windows in the Ritual Complex of the Kremlin Hospital.
In 1982 in a co-authorship effort with the artist Nikolay I. Andronov I completed mosaic panels on 8 walls of the “Kosmos” hotel in Moscow (the most modern hotel complex at the time in the Soviet Union).
In 1982 I was involved in making furniture in the style of Peter the Great for the “Russian” restaurant in the International Trade Center in Moscow.
In 1983-1984 the composition Art Parquet for the Cardiology Medical Center in Moscow received the Grand-Prize in Paris at the exhibition “Art in Architecture” in 1985. The Award is at the art studio of V.A.Legoshin.
In 1984-1985 Science Center of Urology, Moscow. I completed the stained glass window and the wood relief ceiling that was on display at “Architectural Modern” exhibition in Poland. For this work I received an award “For the Traditional Use of Materials - Glass and Wood in Interior Design”.
In 1985, through a contract by a filmmaker A.F.Bondartchuk, I completed the throne of Boris Godunov for the movie “Boris Godunov”. An exact copy of the original, located in the Armory Chamber of the Moscow Kremlin, was created using similar materials. Besides the throne, 8 period weapons from the XVI century were created for the movie.
In 1986 I created a desk, designed specifically for a female, through a contract by an Italian businessman and collector Oliver Chescotti.
In 1986 I entered the Department of Art Furniture Design at the College of Industrial Art, previously referred to as “Stroganov” (today known as the Stroganov University). I finished 3 years.
In 1987-1989 - Paveletskiy Railway Station, Moscow. 18 wall panels in the technique of ancient Russian icon painting (filler, tempera), total area 780 square meters. For this work I was nominated a National Award of the USSR. Due to the disintegration of the Soviet Union, the nominations of 1989-1990 were canceled.
In 1989-1990 - Government Residence of Mikhail S. Gorbatchev, Sareevo. I was involved making stained glass composition (panel) in the office of President Mikhail S. Gorbatchev. Stained glass work was completed in the Fireplace room of the Residence.
In 1991-1993 I worked in London. I completed 5 furniture pieces in marquetry and sold them to the architect of the Royal family through the company HERARTS and the General manager Alan Young acting as middleman. One of the pieces - Table-bean, depicting the Empress Ekaterina is located in the Buckingham Palace in London.
Starting with 1995 I have been working on private contracts for collectors and amateurs of unique marquetry furniture. For the 4 years from 1995 to 1999 there have been completed 16 pieces of top-class marquetry furniture.
From 1999 I have been contracting with the Overland Gallery, Minneapolis, MN, USA.

Participation in exhibitions
1965, Prague - Exhibition of Children’s Work. Marquetry, subject - “A Fight of Gladiators”.
1971, Moscow - Exhibition of Agricultural Achievement (VDNKh). Pavilion of professional vocational training - “Large portrait of Prince Alexander Nevsky”. Degree thesis at the Moscow Art Craftsmanship and Design School. The exhibition was covered by the “Moskovky Komsomolets” newspaper. The article was titled “Master Craftsman’s Hands Are the Artist’s Hands”.
1978, Moscow - Exhibition of Restoration Techniques in the Grabar’s Restoration Center.
1979, Moscow - Exhibition of the Youth group artists of the Artists Society (Sojuz Khudozhnikov). “The Landscape of Moscow” was exhibited, canvas, oil.
1980, Moscow - National exhibition at the Manezh. 3 paintings exhibited -canvas, oil - “The old and the new”, “A small church, Interior”, “Landscape. Childhood scenes”. The exhibition is of national significance.
1981, Moscow - Exhibition “Moscow and Muscovites”. Award of the Moscow City Council, the award is of national significance.
Participation in five annual exhibitions of Moscow Monumentalist Artists at the “House of Artists” in Kuznetskiy Most 12, Moscow.
1988, Москва - Maly Manezh. International Art Exhibition. Exhibited: a large office in the Dutch style and a Table-bean with a landscape of St. Petersburg as a joint exposition effort with Dmitry Tugarinov, an Associate of the Academy of Arts of Russia.
