I spent my childhood exploring and enjoying the natural world. From my earliest memories I remember drawing what I saw. I studied art at school under Alan Gunn and received commendations for my work but then opted for a career in science. Ten years in science saw study notes and work papers overflowing with doodles and sketches so in the end I decided to develop my creative side. I began working with chalk pastels and selling some of my works in the early part of the new millennium.
In 2003 I moved to the McKenzie Country in the South Island of New Zealand where the surrounding scenery provided me with ample inspiration. I studied oil painting under Randall Froude, one of New Zealand’s foremost artists. As my skill and style developed I began exhibiting and at a major New Zealand art festival in 2005 I won the “Best emerging artist” award. I went on to found an art co-operative in Twizel, New Zealand and did some private tutoring.
Since moving to Canada I have painted extensively in the Yukon where I also exhibited and sold many works. I am now resident in the beautiful mountain town of Revelstoke, BC where I endeavor to capture the magic of the Rockies. My paintings have sold in New Zealand, the UK and Canada.
I exhibit regularly at the Revelstoke Visual Arts Center or by contacting me directly at philsue1@gmail.com |
