I was born and raised in California's Bay Area and always had an interest in art due to the influence of my father, who was an artist in his own right. I would try to draw pictures of various cartoons (Disney, Looney Toons,etc). I would draw in class and worked on art projects for various student organizations in high school. When applying to college, I was turned down by UCLA's art program and moved to Santa Barbara to attend UCSB. Unfortunately my attempt to take an art class was derailed by an art teacher that said my work wasn't art, and instead, earned my Bachelor's Degree in African American Studies.
I started my own company, Phatty B. Creations, after a meeting I had with the late Iwao Takamoto, creator of Scooby Doo and former Warner Bros. executive. I committed myself to the advice he had given me, focusing on the growth and development of my own characters. To this day I still have no formal training but look forward to the opportunities my hard work has earned. My lack of schooling has kept me from my "dream job" as a cartoonist, but I'll continue to work until I have my own. I'm currently working on a comic "DEUCES WILD" featuring my infamous #2 Pencil, DEUCE, and his gripes about not being able to get a job in the industry!!!
