Having spent many years free-diving on the West Coast, Johnny has admired the magnificent movement of the native ocean life and has attempted to express the emotion and feeling they exemplify in there natural living. "The Family" depicts the male, female and baby walrus basking together on a rock that they have climbed upon out of the water as they do in there natural environment. When Johnny does his work he must see the piece complete in his mind first, then he clears away the rest of the stone, the debris as he puts it to free the image as he has envisioned it. Without any formal training he meditated and prayed for God to show him how to do this work.
