Descriptions:This is a Hand-carved mahogany-like wood tattoo kit, used widely here in Borneo. This set is included with a storage box with a pull-up lid underneath the artifact, needle stick, tapping mallet and an ink block (small rectangular wood with Iban Dayak design)
Though headhunting has since stopped, their believes in the tattoos they inherit still exist to this day, as tattoos were believed to provide protection from supernatural spirits and served as an indication of social rank as well. Decades ago tattoos were made not for personal interest but rather to denote their courage and victories during war.
The designs of these tattoos were almost always a combination of floral, fern pattern together with images of mystical creatures resembling animals from birds to insects.
