As happens in every cosmopolitan city throughout the world, each has a million fascinating untold stories yet to be told. This is only one small story, but for me it is an important one, being told for the first time. This is a true 1966 San Francisco,CA story....... relive this with me.
It happened at noon, one rare, hot and humid July day. When an exceptionally hot sun was directly overhead and beaming down at its full brilliance. A most unusual day for California's favorite City of San Francisco.
I was leaving a very dark corridor of a building to enter the sunbright day without allowing time for my eyes to adapt and focus to this great change in lighting. My eyes quickly scanned the sidewalk to my right and then to my left. Still unable to focus well, I became aware of a striking female, fashion-like model figure, coming towards me as a beautifully put together mass of red and white checks.
Hesitating for a moment, I had to see the face under this fantastic red and white checker hat with the dingle dangle swaying earrings. As she passed all I saw was a gorgeous red and white checkered pattern over a beautiful golden skinned lady's face with shining red, burning coal-like eyes. Staring back at me.
I arrived home that evening, unable to put the earlier-in-the-day's experience behind me. I felt compelled to bring life to the image that was so powerfully created by my mind. That same night this painting magically painted itself. The following week on another equally bright day, I met the golden lady in the red and white checkered hat with the dingle dangled swaying earrings.
Now, not only will I remember, but you too will remember this story and this painting, because you have fixed it into your deepest memory. Through this fineart painting... "the Lady in the Checkered Hat" will be remembered by you and all who see her, from this day on ...forever.
