2) Dierdriana Takes Aim – Drawing
Maureen W. Clifton (see more by this artist)
A Self-Portrait Drawing of Dierdriana of the Misty Isles from a 1978 photo taking aim in Target Archery at Big Trees in the Oakland Hills CA. She used a 25 pound Re-curve Bow to represent a Longbow with pencil thin aluminum arrows (in those days it was what most SCA Archers used). Her arrows’ colors were her Medieval Heraldic Arms (red, silver & blue). In AS XIV (1980 CE), she was Number 9 in the Top 10 Archers for highest scores in The West Kingdom in the SCA. She was one of the 1st women in the SCA to be a Queen's Archery Guard & was on several Queens’ Archery Guards. She did some Field War Archery tournaments in those days. It was great fun & often quite memorable experiences running around with a quiver full of bird-blunt tipped, wooden arrows, wearing Archery Armour that was not much more than some padding & a fencing helm & shooting at the opponents or at fully Armoured (steel & leather) SCA Sword & Shield Fighters. Costume is a Norse style that she made.
