Eqyptian TQ is not always geniune Turquoise....most is tinited Magnesite, which is considered to be a good quality substitute for the very pricey real thing.
Most geniune turquoise that is sold under the label Egyptian comes from
Sinai or Persia... though I am told Sinai has almost no commercially
run mines anymore. Turquoise from Sinai tends toward the green in
color, where as Persian tends toward blue is therefore higher values
of the 2 Egyptian sources. The is also TQ coming out of Afghanistan,
along with quality Lapis. TQ is found near copper and iron deposits,
which is how it gets its color...and why at times you will see pieces with
both vivid blue and greens in the same piece.
