African Woman Cooking in the Yard
Shine African Art (see more by this artist)
Unframed original artwork painted by a Zambian artist in a Lusaka shanty town.
This painting shows a typical scene in a shanty town in Zambia. The woman here does not have a proper kitchen in her house, so she uses a makeshift cooking area nearby. She cooks her food on charcoal since she does not have gas or electricity in her home. She is also teaching her daughter how to cook - girls as young as six learn how to cook traditional dishes from elder women in their family.
This item was donated by the local artist (Reverend Banda) and, as per his request, 100% of the money made from this painting will go towards running a local community school for orphans in his shanty town.
