Desperate Eyes
Shine African Art (see more by this artist)
Unframed original artwork painted by a Zambian artist in a Lusaka shanty town.
This beautiful and emotive piece depicts a young African boy who is an orphan to AIDS. Having lost his parents, he is looking with wondering and hopeless eyes at what the future holds for him. Behind him is a graveyard, representing the boy's shattered dreams. The light behind the trees in the background symbolizes the possible hope of an end to the AIDS crisis in Africa. The red ribbon he is wearing is a symbol of HIV/AIDS, and the black and white stripes are, in Africa, representative of wealth - the hope that the wealthy may one day help him and restore his hope for the future.
This item was donated by the local artist (Reverend Banda) and, as per his request, 100% of the money made from this painting will go towards running a local community school for orphans in his shanty town.
