A major artist in her own right, her aunt is the late great Emily Kngwarreye [the highest priced female Aboriginal artist ever sold at auction - over $1 mil] and her cousins include the internationally renowned Kathleen and Gloria Petyarre. Margaret’s subject matters involve spinifex, bush medicine and body painting, often painted with a vivid array of colours and great sense of movement. This highly collectable artist is definitely 'bankable'. THE STORY: Margaret’s stunning piece depicts the leaves of a particular type of native shrub [the kurrajong] renowned for its natural medicinal properties. These leaves are gathered by the women and boiled over a camp fire. They use this to make a form of bush tea and the residual material is then mixed into a paste with other ingredients [including kangaroo fat] to make healing potions. THE PAINTING: In an art sense, Margaret is the artistic master of the understated simplicity. With this painting she has created a wonderfully soothing masterpiece by employing a range of almost effortless brush strokes in delicate autumn shades - to represent the medicine leaves swirling on the ground in the gentle desert breeze. This striking piece would definitely command attention on any wall [either hung horizontally or vertically] – or enhance any investment portfolio. The photos definitely do not do it justice.
