	The Empress wendy detweiler (see more by this artist) 22x28 ORIGIONAL,oil on canvas, framed....This is a portrait of a very young Empress Carlota of Mexico...b. 1840 d. 1927, christened Amelie Marie Charlotte, daughter of Leopold I of Belgium, and wife to Joseph Maximilian, Archduke of Austria who later became (for a short term) Emperor of Mexico. After her husband was executed in Mexico the Empress who had been ill went insane, hence her nick name the mad Empress. She was sent back home to Austria and lived to old age in 1927...
