This church was built for the devotion to the santo ninyo, which is a statue of the baby Jesus given to the Cebuanos by Ferdinand Magellan. He was eventually killed in the Cebu area by the Lapu Lapu tribe. This church is beautiful and open-air style, almost like an amphitheater. Being there the Sunday morning of Sinulog was a pretty emotional experience with all of the singing and people waving their hands in the air.
