In this painting I try to express the huge ecological impact of humans' domestication of fire more than a million years ago. For the first time, hominids could use plants requiring cooking and live safely in caves. Whenever fire burned out of control, as this painting suggests, plants and animals would die in unprecedented numbers.
But perhaps you see something altogether different here....
