Ironbridge Gorge,Shropshire
The Iron Bridge is rightly famous as being the first bridge built of Cast-Iron anywhere in the world,and it attracts crowds of tourists, to admire its perfection,and to wonder how it was erected. It was built,mainly as a giant advertisement to his skill, by Abraham Darby in 1779,and as there were no nuts & bolts in his day, all the joints are exactly the same as if the bridge was built of wood, with wedges, tenons,etc.
There are ten museums in the Ironbridge Gorge, celebrating the cradle of Industry in Great Britain,where Coal & Iron & Pottery came together to create the Industrial Revolution.
Technique
My Original Paintings are all produced from my Computer, usually starting with one of my Pictorial Photographs, and then manipulating the image, using Adobe Photoshop and Segmentis PhotoArtMaster Computer programmes.
Firstly, I scan in a suitable photograph and load it into Photoshop. Here, I can remove unsightly television aerials, road signs, parked cars etc., and then add in one of my spectacular skies. At this point, I may have to do some real painting, to add a few flowers, darken an area which is too bright, even add a figure or two. Next, the image is saved, and Photoshop closed. I call up PhotoArtMaster, and bring the image back from memory. This programme allows you to simplify the image, removing the detail in a controlled way, and then painting some of the detail back into the image.
When I am (fairly) happy with the result, I save the image again, close PhotoArtMaster, and re-open Photoshop. Once again, I call up my image, now simplified, adjust Contrast & Brightness, then usually Posterize the result, sometimes using one or more Photoshop Filters to add a little variety.
Then I title the Painting, add my name, and print out a Proof copy onto Canvas-effect paper.
I print copies of my Paintings,personally, on my Epson Stylus Photo C86 Digital Printer,using Durabrite Archival Pigment Inks,onto Somerset Velvet 225 gsm paper,which is 100% cotton,Ph neutral,and acid-free.
Under normal indoor display conditions,my Original Paintings will not show any colour-fading for 80 years.
