EQUILIBRIUM

International Standard Sculpture proposed by the artist for Chandigarh, the city beautiful.
The edict of Chandigarh was prescribed by Mon Le Corbusier, the planner of Chandigarh for its citizens to follow in future

The object of this edict is to enlighten the present and future citizens of Chandigarh about the basic concepts of planning of the city so that they become its guardians and save it from whims of individuals. This edict sets out the following basic ideas underlying the planning of the city.

Human Scale

The city of Chandigarh is planned to human scale. It puts in touch with the infinite cosmos and nature. It provides us with places and buildings for all human activities in which the citizens can live a full and harmonious life. Here the radiance of nature and heart are within our reach.

Areas of special Architectural interest.

Certain areas of Chandigarh are of special architectural interest where harmonized and unified composition of building is aimed at. Absolute architectural and zoning control should remain operative.

City Centre

The central plaza in Sector-17 was designated by Le Corbusier as “Pedestrians Paradise”. No vehicular traffic is permitted in the plaza. The two sculptures are to be erected there.

“The seed of Chandigarh is well sown. It is for the citizens to see that the tree flourishes”.

"Working by calculation, engineers employ geometrical forms, satisfying our eyes by their geometry and our understanding by their mathematics; their work is on the direct line of good art." (From Towards a New Architecture). ….Mon Le Corbusier

Based upon the above edits of the grand master I have attempted to bring out this geometric sculpture. It has been named: ‘EQUILIBRIUM’ thus making it incumbent upon its privileged citizens to preserve its uniqu3e identity. Even the colours used are the same as had been prescribed and used in various heritages building which were constructed under his direct supervision.

My only contribution is placing the hollow same on two of the triangles, representing the two partner states of Punjab and Haryana. That only is my innovation.

P.S.A prposal by the artist.
Exhibited in Gary Art Gallery, Mohali[Punjab] in 2008.
