Welded Cut Nail and Jatoba Wall Art
Daniel Potampa (see more by this artist)
This piece has been in my head a while, but I just recently got the chance to take it start to finish uninterrupted. I can't tell you how much I enjoy seeing the whole process unfold from idea to drawing to the finished physical piece in one long session.. Many times I won't even begin on an idea unless I know I can work straight through to the end.
I've used a favorite material of mine, old fashioned cut nails, along with the warm hues and highlights of the many Jatoba islands. It's tied all together with a somewhat orthogonal grid of tool steel blanks. The blanks, along with the nails, have had a patina applied to give it an industrial raw look while retaining a level of elegance. All of the TIG welding was done from the back to give a clean frontal appearance. The entire piece was given a UV protectant coat of satin lacquer..
So simple to hang, there is no tape measure or level needed. Just place it on the wall however you prefer, up, down, diagonal, then use the metal webbing intersections as hanging points. The many possible positions from just two nails makes this a fun piece to have on any wall. The color combination also goes well with a large variety of decor palletes.
Dimensions are about 24" x 41" and stands off the wall a little less than an inch at the highest point.
Each piece will be a little different, but of the same overall size. If you'd like a different size, larger or smaller, just let me know and we can discuss the details. Current wait time is about 3 weeks.
All pieces are signed and dated on back.
