Abundant Earth (donation)

I made this project as a Donation to a Children’s Hospital Clinic in Ohio. It is displayed in the waiting room where children & adults can enjoy looking at it to find all its details & create a happier day! It took me one full year to complete this project, due to its size & complexity! I began working on it Fall 2006 & completed it Fall 2007! Its stitched area overall is: 11.5” x 14” & is 2 sizes of mesh, 7 & 10 stitches-to-the-inch. I used cotton embroidery thread, pearl cotton, acrylic & metallic yarns with complex, intricate stitches & added dimensional objects. I wanted it to reflect aspects of ‘Abundant Earth’ – humankinds’ creations & aspects of Nature! A 10” diameter round is secured over main screen. In the upper left & lower right are 3.5” Stars. The Star in lower right has my initials ‘MWC’ & ‘07’ for the date completed. A 2” round in upper right is Earth’s Sun! Lower left is a 1” x 2” screen with 3 Roses. The mat has flat & raised stickers (some with words) on it to complete its theme to show many of Earth’s Abundance & Activities! Additional views of a closer look show detail of the round. It reveals wondrous aspects on Earth that sustains us & for our enjoyment & amusement! It shows many aspects on Earth & some are: a Castle, a Light House, a Plane & Totem (antique Sterling charm – Alaska) & an old fashioned telephone! It shows water, rain & snow, plants & food, animals to amuse & amaze us, including a bee, a bison, a bird & fish. It shows blue sky, clouds & storms, even a tornado. There is fire – to harness or use to cook with or for warmth. It shows farms & fields of fertile soil & plants, groves & forests, meadows, mountains & cliffs, oceans, a wave & beach, lakes, rivers, waterfalls & streams. I added fish & sea life, stars & planets that dazzle & cause us to think. It has the Moon & the Sun’s warmth is seen & much more! Our ‘Abundant Earth’ – our Planet, our Home, & our little part of the Universe & our Free Ride around our Sun each year! It was a blast to create this!
