"Light of Life" - EO-106

"Light of Life" - EO-106
Anthony-Francis

A limited edition of 95

It was on the morning of August 27, 2007 that I was photographing a portion of Harlem called Manhattanville. After taking several photographs I felt a need to visit St. Mary’s Episcopal Church on 126th, a place where I ministered several years ago. To get to the church from where I was I would have to walk along Old Broadway. In doing so, I came across an old Synagogue that attracted my attention. Now, I had passed this Synagogue so many times before on my way to the church, but today was different; I felt inwardly drawn to this place. I decided to photograph the building - I thought it was my idea. What happened next I did not expect.

Looking through the lense of my camera I could hardly see the image, everything looked very dark. I thought perhaps my polarizing filter was the cause - this filter reduces the glare of light on glass and can look dark at times. I rotated the filter when suddenly I saw a mist of light pouring over the Synagogue; how awesome! I can only say my camera seems to have captured the “Light Extra-ordinaire” breaking through into the arena of the ordinary. There it makes itself known, as if blessing the nearly one-hundred-year “Old Broadway Synagogue” that houses the Congregation Chevra Talmud Torah Anshei Marovi.

I was so taken with what had happened that I contacted the Synagogue and offered them a print of this awesome work. I communicated with the Synagogue’s President; he responded: "It is true that I did not expect to receive an e-mail from an Episcopal monk. I am also certainly not one to argue with a "God-incident," so your message is definitely welcome. I could tell you many stories! ... this is to say that I am not surprised that you felt the "Light of God" or a sense of the divine at the Synagogue. It is there."

Note that each piece is printed especially for your order. There can be no returns.

A Certificate of Authenticity is made out to the buyer and is enclosed with the shipment.
