Bright art is unique and elegant. I blend classic realism with blocks of color reminiscent of stained glass into an unusual style – Bright Art. I choose the colors based on light and shadow, warmth and cool, and intuition to bring out the subject’s personality.
I grew up in a family of artists and was given an old school art training. I studied under Siegfried Hahn and Carolyn Orr. I also studied art at the University of California, Riverside and the University of Alaska, Juneau. I designed and built stained glass windows professionally as Moonshadows for ten years. But I missed the nuances you get with oils.
I draw the subject in charcoal on the canvas (without any projections). Then I usually paint the whole painting as an underpainting in a monochrome. This adds a depth to the painting and later will subtly tie the second coat of colors together. Finally, I paint using bright colors to illustrate the beautiful spirit of the subject.
I have shown in professional offices in Washington, D.C.; in a solo show in the Fallon Convention Center, Nevada; a Pearl District gallery in Portland; and in the Lake Oswego and Village of Willamette, Oregon juried art festivals.
These oils on canvas show reality with an edge. They bring a touch of bright art into people’s lives and add elegance to homes and businesses.
