...a little about me
Mark Cappabianco“Let each man exercise the art he knows"
Aristophanes, Wasps, 422 B.C.

Biography:

My name is Mark Cappabianco, I am a retired Federal Employee, who at the age of 64 is now enjoying a part of my life that I feel I was always meant to do. Even though I haven't had any formal training I've always been passionate about art, and at times would attempt to express myself through various mediums, but never finding one that I was completely at ease with. About 12 years ago I took a beginning stained glass class at the Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts in New Castle Pa, and I knew immediately that I loved working with glass. About 3 years ago I discovered fusing glass and after my first introductory class I was hooked, I traded in my soldering iron for a kiln...and the rest is history.

My works, which are made up of two or more pieces of glass are arranged together, stacked and layered, are placed in a kiln and heated until they fuse together into a single piece. They are not made from patterns or copied from other designs. I’m passionate about color, shape and design, and I pay particular attention to these elements. In order to maintain my own uniqueness, I personally perform all aspects of the fusing process, cutting, fusing, cold working, fire polishing and finally slumping or draping into shape. If you’ve looked at other fused glass art, I believe you will find that the quality of my work is quite exemplary. My signature: clean, sharp, retro and vibrant seems to be what appeals most to those who view and buy my work.

My glass jewelry, which is entirely made from scratch, consist of multiple pieces of glass, some as small as shards, that are arranged, stacked and layered before being placed in the kiln to be fused together into a single cabochon. My pieces, which are highly regarded, are modest and uncomplicated, they are not overwhelming, nor are they meant to be. They are clean, sharp and above all fun. My use of dichroic glass adds some sparkle that allows a piece to go from casual to classy chic at the discretion of the wearer. If you’ve looked at other glass jewelry I believe you will find the quality of my work quite admirable.

So please come into my shop and browse around, leave comments, and feel free to critique my work. I love to get feedback.
