Hi my name is Coleen and I lived on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. As of Dec 2008 I now live in Hedley, BC in the South Okanagan.I loved Vancouver Island but it was time to move away from the wet coast.
After a lengthy stay in the hospital I started making jewelry in the fall of 2003. I started out with a few beads and made lighter cases. To brighten up my room I was making ornaments to hang in the window and the nurses were coming in to admire them and ask if I would like to sell some.Of course my answer was yes.
I have done many different crafts all of my life and when I started making jewelry and my creativity seemed to just flow from me.
I work with semi precious and precious stones and silver wire and gold.
I started with a simple daisy chain made with seed beads. I then bought a couple of strands of semi-precious stones and started reading up on the healing qualities of the stones. I found that I really liked working with the stones and there are so many ideas floating in my head it is hard to keep up with the ideas.
I then introduced silver wire and began making chain maille and weaving with the wire. Of course the next step seemed logical to take a silver smithing course. I knew I was addicted within the first 5 minutes into the class. Now the ideas are endless.
In the spring of 2007 I decided it would be a good idea to add leather to my jewelry and started doing some bead work on the leather halters, etc. Of course buying some leather halters the next thing I know I have coats vests, chaps, and halters.
It seems like an ever expanding business.
In the summer months My husband Art and I go out on the road selling our leather products along with all this wonderful jewelry I make all winter.
