Born in New York in the ‘Year of the Tiger’ I guess I was destined to be involved with them! I never took my drawing seriously until my late forties. One day, some years ago, I walked into a gallery in Solvang, California and truly became inspired. I viewed the paintings of an animal-loving, older artist, named Clancy. When I saw the tiger she had painted, the beauty of it brought tears to my eyes. I was hooked! I went out, bought myself a rudimentary set of pastels and had at it. No lessons, just lots of love for the animal I try to create.
I paint big cats, (tigers being my favorite), lots of other wild critters, and pet portraits. I've learned to stay away from people portraits, I can be much more honest painting animals.
I've dabbled in oils and acrylics, but have found my true love to be soft pastels. I can get into molding the colors and having my subject come alive for me. My love for tigers has never faded. Honestly, after completing every three or four paintings, I feel the need to do another tiger. I even named my little studio “Tiger Alley”.
I’m a retired, school office manager (30 yrs.) from both southern and central California School Districts. I have three terrific kids, now adults, two loving step-kids, also adults, and lots of beautiful grandkids! Therefore, it’s just my wonderfully supportive husband, Jeffry, our goofy dogs Brady and Shilo and me living at home. We live on a wonderful, wooded hilltop in Prescott, Arizona. Happy! |
