Style: This painting was hand-drawn and painted with a traditional, old-fashioned mouse. No electronic drawing tablets or pens have been employed. I believe the clumsiness of the mouse contributes a folk art-style charm to an otherwise contemporary take on a traditional, American favorite. I originally painted this piece in response to an artists' challenge. I wanted to paint something that had a different look than what other artists had done and so decided on a digital painting. It wasn't until I was halfway finished that I realized digital paintings were not permitted. Since I personally like the medium and the silkscreen-look they can have, I continued with the piece.
Information about the medium per Wikipedia: Digital painting differs from other forms of digital art, particularly computer-generated art, in that it does not involve the computer rendering from a model. The artist uses painting techniques to create the digital painting directly on the computer. This concern with medium is a key feature of much contemporary art and indeed many art schools now offer a major in "New Genres" or "New Media".

About me: There are many labels attached to the art of a self-taught artist: Folk art; outsider art; art brut and raw art. I am not sure which label applies to me. Although I painted now and then throughout my life, I have been painting full-time since August 2006. From time to time I have considered returning to school to earn a degree in art. But instead I just keep doing what I am doing and enjoying it too much to take time out for a formal art education.
