 I was born in Kansas City , Kansas in 1951. My art career first started at Kansas State University in the mid 70's after a four year tour of service in the U.S. Navy. At that time I was introduced to the beauty of the northwest United States while stationed at Bremerton, Washington. Unable to remain a
flat-lander,I ventured back to the northwest.
I received my degree in art at Oregon State University in 1980. I was most fortunate to be mentored in painting and printmaking by a great artist and friend, Nelson Sandgren. His influence of direct painting from nature and strong use of color is to this day a driving force in all of my paintings.
Much of my work is done plein air (in the open air). I depend on mother nature as my teacher now and she never lets me down. Along with my art degree I acquired a teaching certificate and have spent the last 25+ years as and art educator in beautiful Coeur d'Alene Idaho.
Here I am surrounded by endless vistas and fantastic landscapes which are my favorite subjects. I paint primarily in acrylic both for plein-air and studio works. I also travel to Mexico on occasion where I enjoy painting in watercolor or pastels on site. I have exhibited and conducted workshops in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana. I am currently a member of the International Plein-Air Painters Association and the
Coeur d' Alene Arts and Cultural Alliance.
