This photo was taken shortly after sunrise near the top of the "Old Spiral Highway" that links the Lewiston - Clarkston Valley with Moscow and Pullman on the Palouse Prairie. The tree to the right is locally known as the 'sneaker tree' because it holds dozens of pairs of discarded sneakers - one pair is visible hanging from the lower branches.
