Biography
Deb Massa___ARTIST'S STATEMENT___
People tend to describe my art as abstract, yet the expressionist complexity is blatant. I’m not hiding anything in my art; I’m just not making it obvious. I want viewers to experience the challenge and pleasure of decoding my art on their own. My role as an Artist is to define the openness to consider anything; to listen and ignore everything; to know that there are no firm rules and if I find any to break them; to create a little spark hoping people will fuel it, moving it further along.

I am inspired by human behavior and the process itself, which includes the fear, the courage, the self-doubt, the bravado it takes to produce something and share it. Each attempt to create a piece of art is a dare, a learning process, a chance to explore and experiment, to make mistakes and find solutions. This is not limited to the method or media- it includes my views, principles and passions.

___METHOD___
My work assimilates found objects; text; iron; bronze; copper; construction; rusting; sanding; assemblage; staining; scratching with my fingernails; layers upon layers of acrylic mediums; carving with screwdrivers and woodworkers’ tools; my opinions, judgments, beliefs and emotions; applying a riot of color with an athletic force in order to obtain a crude urban texture.

___BIOGRAPHY___
Deb is a self-taught Artist from Los Angeles currently residing in Greenville, SC. She is best friend to Marcy (Jack Russell terrier) and intense hugger of somewhat reticent kitties.

___COMMISSION WORK___
I gladly offer commission work for supporters such as you, though it must be understood that each painting evolves through intuitive responses and decisions. That means I can work with a broad idea and range of colors, but I need latitude to explore my ideas within those parameters. For instance, if you want me to create a piece similar to PLEASE, using a word, phrase, trademark, tagline or quote submitted by you to construct an original piece of art I will be happy to do a rendition for you. Specific size requirements are easy to accommodate. Price and S&H would vary for different sizes.

___LIMITED EDITION SERIES___
I am currently offering a limited edition series titled TEN EASY WORDS. Each piece will feature a 5”x7” one word portrait similar to those created for the PLEASED TO MEET YOU press kits; the pieces will be available for sale by request only (for instance you may request a word seen here or one seen on my web site or come up with one of your own; maximum of 9 letters); once ten of each word have been created that specific series will no longer be available. The price for each portrait is $40 plus $5 S&H Fees.

To request commission works please click on contact and type COMMISSION WORK in the subject line.
