Biography
Mark NewtonI was born in London, in 1966, of which I spent the first 36 years of my life. After spending 2 years in Leighton Buzzard, I moved to Northampton in June 2003.

My main interest is Abstract painting of nature, whereby I take the key elements of the view, reducing it to the basic shapes and colours, leaving only the aesthetic pleasure of the original image in place. I always hope that the final painting is a fun painting, which gives pleasure even though the subject matter may not be clearly understood. Although the main medium I use is paint, I often use other materials to enhance the finished work, ranging from beads, coloured stones, metals, fabrics and even nail varnish!

I have no set pattern or rules that I follow, in the process of creating my Art. I try to keep an open mind in regard to what techniques are used, and where I get my ideas from. Usually, during the painting process, my ideas change and evolve, leaving the original ideas as only a fragment of the finished work. I strive to recapture the pleasure I got as a child – when painting was done for pleasure, and to have fun learning about new materials, and what they can do. I do not aim to create a realistic view, but only to make suggestions on what the subject matter is. My main aim is to capture the atmosphere and emotional content of a subject.
All around us, beneath our feet and within the microscopic world lays a chaotic world of shapes and colours – ever changing, growing, and passing through periods of Birth, Death and Rebirth. In this world of ours, we have chaos theory, cause and effect, fractals, nature and nurture, dominance and submission, natural organic shapes contrasting with complex, manmade shapes. Alongside this, we have a wealth of patterns created through movement and erosion. I always look for the contrasts to be found, in colours, shapes, size, textures, movement, and how Man has changed the natural landscape. It’s the experience that I get in this environment which is used to start my work, rather than a particular view or subject.

A lot of my work in the past has been based around the design elements of bacteria and virus structures. I am now returning to my love of painting landscapes using the abstract principles that I employ. I hope to have enough paintings by the end of 2007 to have a solo exhibition of these landscape works, which would be titled WONDERLAND. I hope, at some stage to use different aspects and fields of the Art world, like poetry, music and the multimedia which we now have in this modern world. The aim is to create an exhibition which has the correct atmosphere, so the experience that the viewer gets, is one of walking through a new world, a world of dreams – the dreams that I have.

My work has been on show throughout England. If you would like to see more...
