The Sun Rises on Palmyra
Frederick Doar
62" x 104"
Oil on Canvas
2008
Palmyra is a beautiful group of islands in the South Pacific. The islands have a mysterious history that includes pirate treasure, strange ghostly appearances, and murder.
On this morning, just at sunrise, I was walking along the North Beach path to the runway, when, as morning light hit the path in front of me, it seemed to move away from me. It was an incredible site that was created when thousands of crabs on the road moved at once with the arrival of light.
The painting is exciting, dangerous, and thrilling. Exotic and stunning, Palmyra will always be on my mind.
"The Sun Rises on Palmyra" is a signature work that will be on display at the Athenaeum, Claremont McKenna College until 2010.
It is available for delivery in February of 2010.
