 I am a graduate of the Ontario College of Art in Toronto ON, Canada
. My background includes teaching full time in the art programs at Sheridan College (69-71) Oakville Ont. and Dawson College (75-2000) Montreal QC. In the interval between teaching jobs, I was a cartoonist at the Montreal Star.
In 2000 I moved to Cape Breton, NS. Where I painted the ocean the mountains and the fishing villages en plein air, and models in my studio.
In 2006 “Trippin’ with Garry”, a book of my stories and illustrations as a columnist illustrator for the Cape Breton Post was published.
In 2007 I returned permanently to Montreal.
I have been juried into many international watercolor competitions won awards and been elected to membership in the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour (CSPWC) and granted signature status with the North East Watercolor Society (NEWS) USA and the Louisiana Watercolor Society (LWS) USA.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
My inspiration is light and its corollary, shade.
- how light reveals form, creates pattern, establishes mood. –
- how it diffuses, bleaches, shines or disappears to reveal the subtleties of colour.
- and in colour, the play of harmonious colours, the drama of opposite colours, the vibration between warm and cool colours. These are the elements I select from to design a painting. |
