I am a graduate of the Ontario College of Art in Toronto. My background includes teaching full time in the art programs at Sheridan College (69-71) Oakville Ont. and Dawson College (75-2000) Montreal QC. In the interval between teaching jobs, I was a cartoonist at the Montreal Star.
In 2000 I retired to Cape Breton, NS. Where I painted the ocean the mountains and the fishing villages en plein air, and models in my studio. In 2007 I returned permanently to Montreal. I have been juried into many international watercolor competitions and been elected to membership in the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour (CSPWC) and granted signature status with the North East Watercolor Society (NEWS) and the Louisiana Watercolor Society (LWS).
I consider myself a 21st century Impressionist.
An impressionist in that my concern is with light. How light reveals form, creates patterns, establishes mood. 21ST century speaks for itself. The technology to transport a fleeting moment or a remote waterfall into my studio via a digital camera and a TV screen. And to render the remembered moment with an assortment of permanent colors that didn’t exist in previous decades.
In 2006 “Trippin’ with Garry”, a book of my stories and illustrations as a columnist illustrator for the Cape Breton Post was published. It is still available for sale. In Montreal I can be reached by appointment at my gallery/studio at 514 686 8108, or at
