Fun and funky with a twist of the unexpected best describe Lucinda Sperry’s work. She expresses her concepts of life in acrylic paints and eclectic junk. Lucinda sees small items like drawer pulls or wire as bras and musical notes. Everyday functionality is tossed out the window as Lucinda chooses each recycled item for her art. Her color choices are bold and fearless. Collectors enjoy her art for it’s conversation-starting abilities.
The birth of Lucinda’s daughter, Joslyn, inspired her to choose paint over the computer. She has hosted three of her own art shows, A show of hands (featuring Jazz musicians and Glam Gals) Intentions of a Girlfriend (featuring eight Glam Gal paintings of her thirteen life’s intentions), and VooDoo Lounge a New Orleans Art Party (featuring paintings on recycled furniture, New Orleans style Glam Gals and Wine Cellar art).
Who are these “Glam Gals”? Lucinda painted two portraits of women enjoying the nightlife, holding a drink and decked out in all that is glamourous for her first show. Not knowing that these two ladies would cause such a stir with her guests. Both “Gals” sold instantly and everyone enjoyed having “chat’s” with the paintings for fun. Since then “Glam Gals” keep popping up in her art.
Lucinda has been painting professionally since 2001 and has spent the last 10 years of her career as a respected graphic designer owning a small graphic design company (Indigo Ink Design) for five of those years. A Graphic Design graduate of Grand View College in Des Moines, Iowa. Lucinda had several stops in her college career such as Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Morningside College in Sioux City, IA and Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville, IA.
