I was born and raised in Billings, Montana. It was a great place to grow up. I came from a good, Christian, middle-class family. My father was a business man; we lived in a white, two story house with green gables. My mother was a good housekeeper, gardener and cook. I excelled in school, became the valedictorian of my high school class. I attended Eastern Montana College, then received my bachelor's degree in art from the University of Washington in Seattle. Several years later I attended the San Francisco Art Institute from which I recieved a Master's degree in painting. A number of years later for three years I attended Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. After my mother died in 1977 I returned to Montana where I taught at Eastern Montana College and began to master the craft of writing. In 1981 I moved to New YOrk City where I lived for the next 24 years. All this time taught in various institutions and contined to write and paint and write and illustrate children's books. After my husband died in 2004 I returned to the west. I opened an art gallery in Taft, California, but when it failed I closed it and am now trying to figure out what to do next. JMM |
