This is a preliminary sketch of an acrylic on canvas painting. Illustrating the Beatitude from Matthew 5:10,11 ~ Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
I wanted to depict faces of persecution as well as the persecuted. In this drawing is skepticism, anger, mocking, and gossip. Their placement is not just for the sake of composition. Mocking and gossip are behind anger who is in the face of the Christian. Skepticism turns his back on what the Christian stands for. The man being persecuted is unclothed to show vurnerability in the flesh.

Beautiful, beautiful piece (especially the finished painted piece)! I'm also intrigued by the subtextual meaning of it as well.
