This is my second painting in acrylic on canvas. The original is 3.5ft x 4.5ft. Inspired by the Bible verse Matthew 5:10,11 "Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me".
The idea for this painting came to me immediately, however, it was several months before it was put on paper. I wanted to depict the faces of persecution that we see here in the United States. Not just for the sake of composition, I chose four background figures to represent the spirits of Sinicism, Anger, Mocking, and Gossip. Four ways that I see Christians being persecuted in the U.S. The fifth figure is the Christian. We don’t yet have the physical persecution that Christians in other countries experience. Even though we feel it on a spiritual level, we see more verbal and gestured persecution.
Our flesh is vulnerable without the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18). This Christian is shown unclothed to show that vulnerability. The running paint is the Holy Spirit clothing the Christian. You will notice that the four behind also have some running paint. It is hard to not be effected by the work of the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 6:10-13 “Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devils schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms”.
