	click images below for alternate view     Lines of Intent Jan Cilliers de Wet This is the first in series of pieces based on the 2009 "AfrikaBurn" creative festival held annually in the Karoo. The reference is a collection of photographs taken by Monica Miguel Vaccaro using a fish-eye lens to document her experience of the event. I liked her shots so much I asked if I could turn them into paintings, and this is the first result. The alternate image here is the original photo, taken from within one of the architectural sculptures. The line on the right is an enormous pictogram a la the Nasca lines in Peru. What I like about the wide lens is the curved horizon that gives a sense of living on a planet, something we tend to forget in our busy human lives. The curved horizon is a feature of all the pieces in this series, an enjoyable departure from the horizontal line that is present in so much of my other work.
