Chess pieces are entirely hand carved from solid Maple and Walnut. Kings are about 2.25" square at the base and stand about 4.5" tall. Chess board is also made from solid maple and walnut and measures about 27" square. Board also features the ruins at Hamar, a cathedral built in Norway about the same time as the pieces were made, in the middle of the ruin facade, the word 'CHESS' is carved in the period alphabet.
