Mapa Jeff worked as a travel editor and a professional newspaper journalist before taking up drawing and painting while living in Yelapa, Mexico in 2005.
The first Yelapa map was printed that year, and Mapa Jeff began work on Puerto Vallarta by creating a horizontally skewed geometric projection of the central city's street grid.
In 2008, an all-new Yelapa map was introduced, and Mapa Jeff began driving and walking the entire breadth of Puerto Vallarta to create a template map with the most current snapshot of the growing city's streets, parks, paths, stairways, and amenities.
In 2010, Mapa Jeff printed his first Puerto Vallarta map -- a pedestrian's portrait of the old city center -- as well as the most thorough and accurate street map of Sayulita as yet available anywhere, and the Central Pacific Mexico regional poster-sized driving map. With a sales table at Puerto Vallarta's Old Town Farmers Market, he began printing and selling early signed prints of his work as it emerged.
As of 2013 the collection includes up-to-date color maps of all of Puerto Vallarta; Nuevo Vallarta; BucerÃas; La Cruz de Huanacaxtle; Sayulita; San Pancho; and of course Yelapa, as well as driving maps of Conchas Chinas and Cabo Corrientes.
