I live with 12 cats, so it seems only natural that they would influence my work. They can be elegant or comical, routine or unpredictable, funny or serious. Each feline has a very different personality.
In 2003 I did a series of acrylic paintings that were more like fabric designs, almost quiltlike. “Miss Meep's” pastel flowery shapes says she is a sweet cat, while "Crazy Cat" shows the inner workings of the feline mind.
Getting a bit more primitive and patternistic I started to paint wooden boxes. Being able to pick up and hold little paintings then put them on a shelf seemed like a fun idea.
Working with the digital camera I incorporated my two loves, flowers and cats. Photographing the flowers in my garden then placing a photo of the cat inside them seemed like a natural thing to do. These are available as 4x6" cards.
Influenced by my cartoonist husband, Gary Dumm, I did a digital comic book titled "The Adventures of Bongo Monkey". It's a series of one page stories about Bongo, and the rest of his "Hip Cat Band". |
