I've been interested in photography for most of my adult life. Recently I began collecting photographs from 1850 until about 1910. These 'Cabinet Cards' and 'CDV's depict portraits taken prior to the introduction of the roll film 'Kodak' around 1900 and enabled 'snapshots' to mostly replace studio photographs.
My Gallery consists of images that have been scanned from my collection of original Victorian photos. These images have been restored by using Photoshop Elements to remove blemishes, and they have been altered to make them appear more like a line drawing than a photograph. The image is printed on matte paper and mounted on 3/16" foamcore backing.
If your family no longer has photos of your ancestors, why not 'adopt' one or more of my Instant Ancestors? They all have names, but I'll not tell if you change them to your family names. By the way, all of the names come from an 1850 Illinois census.
Each image is a slightly different size. I have chosen to adopt a standard 'resolution' for the image to insure a quality print, and this results in different print sizes. I have mounted each image on 8x10 or 5x7 black foamcore material. Therefore you may mount the image in a standard size frame and may choose to leave the black foamcore for a matting or use an additional mat of your choice. |
