Starting Friday November 4, my show “Christmas Flowers” will be on exhibit at Art Affects, a gallery in Railroad Square in Tallahassee. Open the Christmas Flowers gallery here on Yessy to see the works in the show. This show will be up through December, including the First Friday gallery hops in November and December. I’ll follow it with a Valentine show and a Motion show in 2006. For information about Art Affects, see http://artaffectsgallery.com .
I have been painting and drawing since I was six months old. I try to bring the beauty of the natural and human world to the people around me. All my life I have inflicted my work on family and friends to share with them the experience of beauty and delight. I have drawn flowers and plants and animals in the Apalachicola National Forest near my home in Tallahassee since 1972, and share my work with public land managers to help them protect the naturally wild flora and fauna I love to depict. I wrote “Songs of the Apalachicola", with many illustrations derived from studies in the wild of rare flowers and creatures.
I’ve also spent many weeks drawing dancers in classes and studios.
In 1992 I presented the artistic and comic revue “Nothing Contrary to Science or Nature” at Windows on Gaines in Tallahassee, with original songs, costumes, and art works. I introduced the characters Naturally Wild Flora and Enfauna Terrible. In December 1993 I took part in a joint show at the 621 Gallery where I debuted Variations on Athena and performed “This Is Not Performance Art”. Celebrity the Rustic Sphinx Moth joined my cast of characters in this show.
the flavor of felled cardamon;
the melt of chocolate;
the scent of kinnamon;
the foretaste of Divine Grace;
woven into a garland of gardenias
cut from Paradisio.
ah beauty wreathes my heart.
a breath of fyre and water
becalms a chill of moon.
Mourning becomes electric
as the shock of death abates.
oh glorious Morning
when the skye clad clouds
turn all purpie and rosie.
the body lists;
the heart beguiles;
the soul quickens into life. |
