How this painting was born:
I have a past that haunts me from time to time and it shows up in unexpected times of my life.
Often, when I paint, I start with some basic shapes and colors but the painting takes over and I have little control of what happens to the finished product. This was one of those times.
By the time I was done painting her, I needed to get away from her and not see her for several days. She became a part of my life that took a long journey for me to escape.
She does not have eyes. I see this two ways. One way is that she does not see the danger; another way is that she does not see a way out of the danger.
Her helpless position is everything that I have worked hard to put behind me. It was a rather frightening experience for me to find the woman on the paper bringing it all back to the here and now.
Although I usually love it when passion takes over my art, I hope this one doesn’t come back.
